This session will outline the young people we work with from under-represented or vulnerable groups and the programmes we offer.

Our programmes aim to build confidence, develop key personal development and transferable skills and equip students with the knowledge and understanding to make a strong application and to support them through to their transition into University.

This session will introduce you to Unifrog and touch upon the many other support options available from university school liaison teams, events, SACU and more!

Thoughts on any best practice currently used within your school/college will also be invited.

The support and opportunities available to Welsh speakers

Whether they receive a scholarship, undertake a bilingual work experience placement, sit exams in Welsh or opt for a Welsh-speaking personal tutor, your students will have the opportunity to join a thriving Welsh community at the University.

International student roundtable discussion and Q&A session

Cardiff University attracts some the best students and staff from around the world with over 7,700 international students from over 130 countries.

Moderated by Dai Evans (International Office), hear first-hand from some of our international students about why they chose Cardiff, student life, and the opportunities and challenges that arise when living and studying in another country and culture.

The panel will provide some handy hints and tips to pass on to your students and there will be an opportunity to pose questions.

New pathways in eye care in Wales

Optometry as a career is changing. With the development of new pathways in eye care in Wales, we are now seeing secondary care appointments moving into primary care, meaning that patients can now be managed by optometrists in the community, rather than going to the hospital for their eye appointment.

This has resulted in the upskilling of optometrists in a number of areas include medical retina, independent prescribing, low vision, paediatric eye care, acute eye care, and glaucoma.

We will outline the recent changes to the Optometry course in response to the changes in the profession and the tour will showcase the clinical facilities tailored to training and upskilling the next generation of optometrists.

Conservation of Museum Objects and Archaeology

Cardiff University specialise in teaching Conservation of Museum Objects as well as having one of the oldest established Archaeology departments in the UK.

The tour will visit the Conservation Labs where we will look at the artefacts including an Egyptian coffin, mummy bandage and leather altar panel and discuss the role of art and science in the conservation of artefacts as well as seeing how archaeologists use the kinds of scientific facilities within the School.

The facilities include analytical equipment such as the Scanning Electron Microscope (EM-EDX), FTIR, XRF, x-ray facilities, all of which are used to characterise and study objects and decay mechanisms. We will visit the facilities where we carry out research into the corrosion rates of metals and the efficiency of metal coatings in slowing corrosion and explain how this research is informing practice in the conservation and heritage profession.

There will be an opportunity to ask about careers in Conservation and in Archaeology.

Compete in our Trading Room!

The Trading Room at Cardiff Business School is the largest of its kind in Wales. The Trading Room facility is designed to give students a real-world simulations of a trading floor, helping to hone their knowledge, skills and trading style.

The room provides students with the opportunity to gain the practical skills required for life at the Stock Exchange. The Trading Room is integral to providing finance students with practical experience.

The facility is used extensively during formal teaching but is also available for independent and group use. During this session we will guide you through a taster Trading Room session.

You will work in pairs of traders and analysts, competing against the other teams to see who can make the best investments in stocks and shares, yielding the largest profit.

After a brief tour of our fantastic new home – Abacws – take part in our interactive game show which combines the latest Microbit technology with a fast-paced, trivia-based format. You’ll spend your visit in one of our purpose-built labs experiencing first-hand how our students work collaboratively on the fundamental aspects of the subject such as coding.

The Microbit Game Show is also a powerful teaching tool that can help you enhance your students' learning in a variety of subjects. Whether you're teaching science, technology, engineering, maths, or any other subject, incorporating Microbit technology into your lessons can help you create hands-on, interactive experiences that will captivate your students and enhance their understanding.
